Books with socially awkward characters and settings I've never experienced are my favorite. This author has both, along with completely unpredictable and refreshingly creative situations. If you have ever started a blog (and who hasn't by now?), and posted diligently to grow your reader base, only to get two regular readers - your sister and your bff, this author feels your pain, laughs at it and make you laugh at it too. Now I normally wouldn't think of reading a novel unless there was a ghost, murder or spaceship involved but I downloaded this one out of interest and what a nice surprise!
Single mother Vicky and newly-redundant Flic meet and start up up a business as private investigators exposing online cheats. Their private lives collide with their private ones with the result being an entertaining novel that had me gripped from the first page.
I managed to read this in one go, the characters are engaging, the writing sharp and the whole thing is very well presented. In fact I was forced to put this book down for a while in order to sleep but picked up my and started reading again as soon as I woke up. The story rattles along at a satisfying pace and the twists and turns will keep you guess up until the end. Download this story, you won't be disappointed.
Cliche, stilted, terrible writing fill this novel's improbable plot. The knock-off names - Tete-a-Net, HunEtrap - are incredibly insipid and the book as a whole lacks substance.
I would have really enjoyed The Tangled Web except for one major storyline problem; the author lost track of the profiles she created. Since the last half of the book is based on the profiles this was a major disconnect for me, the reader.
To be more specific -
59% into the book Flic and Vicky have a conversation that explains that George wasn't responsive to Diana. "He thought she was spam." A new profile, Zoe, was created in Flic's attempt to ensnare him. However the rest of the book is based on George's continued flirting with "Diana" (not Zoe) and their inability to shut down "Diana's" profile until they get paid for their investigation of George. The rest of the book revolves around the back-story they create for Diana - based on the continued pestering and incessant flirting by George, directed to Diana.
Am I the only one who was disturbed by this incongruity?!?
(I'm not giving it one star becase I did enjoy the book until the storyline and character chain broke.)

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was humourous, witty and full of suspense. I even felt embarrassed for some of the characters and I even imagined myself in those situations. Excellent read.
This was a pretty good book- Not great, It could have had some more to it. The reason for three stars though is the confusing way that the blog posts and e-mail chats had to be read on the Fire... by moving the screen left to right. In some cases you could deduce what the words were so it wasn't necessary but in other cases you had to scroll back and forth to get the gist of the conversation. At times it was also unnecessary it seemed and it made up a lot of the book. Also, the story line itself was okay- A bit one dimensional for some of the characters and then it seemed towards the end that a whole lot of story was actually left out. It wasn't but all of a sudden things had been happening that there was no way that the reader would have had any hint to. I would have liked to see a bit more development of other characters and the story itself. Maybe I just would have taken it in another direction completely... It is a decent read to pass the time, I did like the ending in a way, it seemed almost as if the real author had gone through this to get her writing started- obviously not since it is all fiction but the author in the story took three years to finish her first novel as did the real author. It seemed a far stretch to have three years pass to the epilogue though and seems we could have had more story line there even if it would have made the book longer. It just would have felt more complete at that point.
I found The Tangled Web to be a very entertaining and enjoyable read. I liked the author's style of writing. She writes in a light and humourous way and there were many times that I laughed out loud.
The characters are very human and likeable and it was easy to relate to some of their struggles. The author's description of family life and squabbles was particularly appealing to me.
The plot was different and intelligent. It was a real page-turner.
I liked the author's way of interspersing blog posts within the book. I haven't seen that done before and I thought it was a clever, modern way to keep the reader hooked. I was immersed in the story right from the start and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. The author managed to maintain an element of suspense throughout the book which kept me hooked.
The Tangled Web is an excellent book, written in a very unique and entertaining style. I would highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more of Lacey Dearie's books.
I couldn't get into this one and like all books I can't get into I eventually started skipping over paragraphs and eventually pages just to get it over and done with.
To me this was one long, boring and drawn out story. Most of it didn't make much sense, some of it was just odd and awkward and some of it was supposed to be funny but it wasn't.
